Hanging Out
$5.00
In the 50's and 60's, girls were required to wear dresses or skirts to school. Long pants could be worn under the dress or skirt but only during cold weather. Since most of the playground equipment required climbing, this dress code made it very challenging for girls to play outside. Girls loved to climb just like the boys. On warm days while most girls would swing upright on the bars, there were a few girls that would hang upside down by their knees, letting their dresses fall aptly over their heads. It's hard to know whether these girls were revolutionaries or just early feminists.
